WD: "Republicans signing pledges is OK with me (except for yours) ... anti women's rights". ["Yours" is a reference to Willis Hart's pledge which is not to sign any more pledges". "Anti women's rights" is a reference to the GOP's opposition to a woman's right to choose].

Hm? How many decades since there has even been an anti-womens rights pledge? If there ever was one? [in response wd said "It hasn't been decades since the Republicans tried to restrict a woman's right to choose. That's going on RIGHT NOW"].

And we need to reduce spending, a lot. There's so much waste. We can start with the hundreds of billions which are going in "entitlements" to the wealthy and well off. Waste that WD says we need for propaganda purposes, not because those people need the government handouts.

The Clinton surplus is as real as unicorns. There were only defificts on his watch. Bush turned a deficit into a higher deficit. Obama did the same thing. Also, you are confusing debt and deficit. Clinton handed Bush a massive debt that he added $1.6 trillion to, himself. Bush then added $6 trillion to it.

Two lions. The amount of debt Bush is reaponsible for is about the same as the amount Obama is responsible for. Only Obama's done this in 3 years and it took Bush 8.

You mean "restrict abortion". That is what the issue is about. Abortion, yes or no. Not "choice". And actually this is a children's rights matter, not a women's rights matter. Most people oppose abortion, and more women than men oppose it.

which has nothing to do with abortion, which is an issue over what is done with a child. It is as much about restriction what a woman does with her body as rape is about what a man does with his body: such weasel-words are attempts to mask the fact that the issue is abortion: yes or no?". Also, more victims of abortion are young females than they are young males... more so with sex selection becoming common. It's a misogynistic practice. [Interpretation: Abortion should be illegal just as rape is illegal].

It's is not control of a woman's body that is controversial. It is violence against the body of another person, the child. There was zero misogynistic content in Voltron's comment. [Re Voltron saying "What about equal rights? She didn't get pregnant by herself. What if the father WANTS the baby? What if he doesn't and she does? Why does he have to pay for the next 18 years?"].

The only force involved, WD, is the violence involved in killing the child. Without such acts of violence, the child (who is already a living human being) will continue to survive.

WD thinks that the people can't be trusted to decide whether or not to buy a Hyundai automobile, and this decision must be left to the rulers....but this is not true at all if someone "Chooses" to kill another human being. Never heard of this guy [Joe Walsh] before. The deadbeat dad part sounds bad, but the abortion part much less so for me, since I think abortion is a bad idea. And I have an opposite view of RN as to which side in the abortion controversy tilts more toward fascism. But thanks, Will, now I have the songs "Space Age Whiz Kids" and "Life's Been Good" in my head.

I read that this is all OK because the money that PP is making chopping up kids and selling the pieces is not enough for them to make a profit. A real weak defense. If we use this logic, we can excuse any other corporation for any sort of malfeasance if it is not making a profit (i.e. bungling business practices, poor management) at that time.

[Willis Hart said] "PP get their cash the old fashioned way; by earning it and through private donations".

Too bad the Hyde Amendment, put in place to stop the government from being involved in the business of harming the young, isn't interpreted to such direct subsidy to the abortion industry. But the funding could end up in danger. Remember ACORN, the election fraud scam, that got cut off finally.

Good point. The abortion industry thrives on people not knowing what they do. PP is very extreme, and greedy: they demand tax money to to be used to harm unborn children all the way up to newborns. It's run by sickos who get their jollies killing as many of the unborn as possible. Do they need to engage in their deadly sadism on the public dime?

Russ Feingold View Of Special Rights To Abortionists To Butcher Live Born Americans

And not only did WD embrace one of the extreme views (extreme according to strongly pro-choice moderate Will and 'insane' according to strongly-Left John Myste), he extended it to a passionate (and compassionless) support for infancticide and disregard for the inconveneint (for him) protections for citizens under the Constitituon (his ineffective argument? People don't have any rights if they might possibly die. For them there are no civil liberties.) His bringing up of blowing up abortion clinics is hollow and ineffective sloganeering. Not only has it hardly ever happened, it represents an extremist view. No one here in this discussion supports either of the extremes, except for WD.

Yet, you are using it for people who quite often don't do anything in return for campaign contributions. Or for organizations such as the DNC, which has nothing to do with this.

By the way, Feingold gets thousands and thousands of dollars for of campaign contributions from Planned Parenthood (a corporation) and from elsewhere in the abortion industry. In return, he votes in an extreme out-of-touch fashion to increase abortions and to wast precious Federal dollars in corporate welfare handouts to the abortion industry. Russ Feingold does easily meet your definition of corporate Democrat.

That is simply not true for Feingold. He favors abortions at all stages (an extreme view) and also favors wasting tax dollars to encourage them. Which means be wants more of them. That is no wanting it 'rare' at all. Thankfully as you pointed out he is not in office anymore.

Actually, he does. Feingold very strongly favors abortion. In the other discussion on his views, I linked to a non-partisand site that had extensive examples. It is simply untrue that he wants abortions "rare". He Wants them increased, and supports governent funding to encourage them, and opposes any efforts that might reduce the number of abortions.

Failed former Senator Feingold was mostly someone who favored power for the state at the direct expense of the people.... from his "campaign finance reform" which included making it a crime for people to criticize politicians at the wrong time of year ....to his very extreme abortion position which would have given abortionists the power to act as judge/jury/executioner to born US citizens. Not entirely though. There were exceptions, as Tao has mentioned. Rand Paul has a much better record overall, though.

Tao: After reading again the statements by Feingold that are so damning and embarrassing that Feingold tampered with the Congressional record to try to cover it up [Re this 9/26/1996 exchange], we will agree to disagree. A person acting as judge, jury, and executioner is not a "doctor" making an informed choice, in my view. This situation is long long after the dividing line in the compromise on abortion discussed by RN earlier in another item.

"Citizens United"? I was not being coy at all. Whatever point you were trying to make there, it is obscured by your own coyness and lack of clarity. And I got right to the heart of the movie: some individuals tried to express criticism of a member of the ruling elite, and were blocked from doing so by a law that would make Kim Jong Un smile.

So? As soon as I heard of this a while back, I went on record and sharply criticized the Republicans for objecting to this movie. Usually the "don't want you to see" tagline in ads is hyperbole, but here it would not be.

And here, Tao, you have completely lost a grasp of the facts, and are merely making careless assumptions and typing stuff that just feels good to type, without much thought. I have always and consistently opposed the idea of 'corporate personhood' because it is nuts, and I support that part being removed. I also favor strong restrictions on campaign funding. I have a big problem with "with wads of money being spent to control politicians". However, I strongly support the right of anyone to speak truth to power, any time of the year, be it the individuals in the "Citizens United" group, Michael Moore, NBC, or anyone. For or against issues, for or against candidates. The First Amendment demands this.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances".

The fact remains that it appears that you and most others I talk to about this who favor such censorship think it is a good thing for the government to harass and persecute individuals for the crime of criticism politicians at the "wrong" time. I've even seen someone repeatedly justify such censorship if the content is a "hit piece" (i.e. too critical of someone in power). In this case, it should be banned. Russ Feingold overall has a poor record on civil liberties and our Constitutional rights. So does McCain in this area. Make of that what you will. Rand Paul is overall on more sound footing, with more proper caution toward the idea of acceding more power to those in control than Feingold has.

Besides, Feingold is a has-been: a failed politician, rejected by the people. Sent home. For good or ill, he is irrelevant. Rand Paul is a in position of power. Hope he does more good with it.

The hard-line positions of the Democrats on abortion are likely a similar turn-off (wasting taxpayer money to encourage abortions, extreme policies a la Russ Feingold in favor of late term, or even for "abortions" applied to born US citizens).

This poll and study shows the mix of views 18-24 year olds had just 3 years ago.... definitely out of step with the agenda of the abortion industry, while definitely not "Right to Life" material either. You are right on the gay rights issue, but on this, the Republicans are only a few years behind the Democrats. Remember, Obama campaigned on banning gay marriage, and fought to keep "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" well into his administration.

BB: Even before reading RN's comment after this, and despite Feingold having some extreme views (such as wanting "abortion" to be forced on born US citizens), my immediate thought, and not to be rude to you, BB, is "so what?". I've often enjoyed columnists and pundits in the past, despite them liking politicians I didn't like. That has not changed. Besides, Feingold is now a has-been. And I'm sure Greenwaldt could find some politicians I have supported with extreme views, if he so chose to. I'm just not thinking in terms of absolutism, pure ideology here, BB.

To now echo RN, I say "bring him on". I look forward to this approach of "Eclectic", and no less so if it means it includes left-wing columnists. I will readily admit, though, there are a few that would make me say "Nahhhh". Pat Buchanan tops the list. (Not thinking of any on the Left right now like that that really would turn me off, other than Molly Ivens who mistook Limbaugh-like taunts for wit, but she is not with us anymore).

Feingold has a lot of statist, anti-liberty views, including his support of abortionists killing already-born US citizens without any due process. But his stance on PATRIOT is commendable. The man who defeated him supports it, and even made a specific statement in which he said we need to give up our freedoms.

Thanks for the view, Will, that extremes also exist on the "pro-" side as well as the "anti-" side. But of course... you are not a liberal/Democrat. And probably not a fan of the Feingold view of granting special rights to "abortionists" to be able to butcher born Americans as they please.

Feingold's Views, Which Are Pro Infanticide (April 16 to April 20, 2012)

The extreme goes beyond that: the view that supports abortion after birth. Senator Feingold once spoke out on the senate floor in favor of this. And on the other end, the extreme could be "no contraception or birth control at all". And that does exist too.

And here, by the way, is Feingold taking the very extreme view of performing "abortions" to kill children* who have alresdy been born. And yes, he does think it is OK for a doctor and mother to act as judge, jury, and executioner on a new born infant. A person under the law (please check your 14th amendment), and an American citizen who under our Constitution holds the rights of due process. Feingold's views are extreme in the worst way.

Again with your death panels. Actually, legislators actually tend to be more qualified in terms of Constitutional rights and due process. It is shocking in many respects (including to the respect of the law and due process) to advocate doctors killing people willy-nilly without any regards to the rights of persons under the Constitution.

Actually, under the Constitution, there is no allowance for doctors to be judge, jury, and executioner. What you describe very specifically and exactly in fact meets the definition of murder: "The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another".

And killing legal American citizens as Feingold advocates is indeed "unlawful", as the victims in this are not fetii, and are not covered in the abortion law being discussed. Feingold and those like him took a huge leap when they deigned to stretch abortion law to cover legal American citizens who are not in the womb.

There's not even a gray area of self-defense: a newborn infant is not going to harm the mother. So you can't even hide behind that. Since you seem to think it does not matter, here is the text of the 14th Amendment: Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws".

I can remind you of due process if that is necessary too.

I am not opposed to that as much as I am opposed to the extra-legal and unConstitutional situation of doctors assuming the mantle of judge, jury, and executioner over these legal American citizens. Take each case to a court of law, where it belongs. "advocate doctors killing people willy-nilly" is exactly what you have advocated. I have seen no mention from you whatsover of this citizen's rights under the Constitution.

Which is to give doctors the right of judge, jury, and executioner to murder (yes, murder) American citizens willy-nilly. It's a very extreme position. Will's original comment had the extreme on this end as aborting a fetus 24 hours before birth. I guess he had no idea that someone would go out in a limb and even make false accusations to put forth a much more extreme position.

Since I have not lied yet here, one can only guess at what you mean. In any case, it is clear to anyone reading this with even an ounce of reading comprehension that you are making a false accusation. In regards to Will's request "I mean, I know that this has largely become an emotional issue and all but, please, can we plainly just knock it off with all of these battle-lines... at least for a minute or two?"

Will, when you created this item, did you have any idea that someone would come out and use this as an excuse to vent their desire to have doctors slaughter such "undesirables" who ale already born?

I know that well. That was not even at question. I brought it up in the matter of unlawfully killing children who have already been born. For some reason this is actually controversial here. These children are in no position to harm the mother.

I know, I know. But read up for the previous comments. WD is advocating killing newborns, who are legal persons (born, see the 14th Amendment), and technically not a fetus any more. That's a rather outrageous and extreme position.

You are also ignoring the Constitution and other law. Which demands that such matters have proper due process.

Rogue killer "doctors" as you advocate... simply not legal.

I have not jumped anywhere. The only leap was Feingold's in which he used a discussion of abortion law to vent his own zeal for killing already-born persons. One you support.

Tell us, WD. You clearly believe that the 14th Amendment should be ignored. Is there any age at which it should kick in, and legally born American citizens get their Constitutional rights of due process? Is it 1 minute after they were born? 1 hour? 1 day? 3 years? 30? Which is it? Should the 14th Amendment be changed to reflect this? Or do you think it is OK that anyone can choose to ignore it as they see fit?

That's a bizarre view. It makes one wonder if you have your own alternate-reality Constitution there. One with an asterisk in the 14th Amendment. * = Not applicable of you are going to die. Well, we all will die eventually. So no 14th Amendment. None at all, WD. Truth be told, this major modification exists in your own mind alone. In the real America, the 14th Amendment applies to everyone: even those who you so eagerly want to see slaughtered. And it is so strange you bring up abortion in this part of the discussion. Check the definition of abortion. It does not apply to some mercenary with a medical degree taking a hit on someone who has already been born.

WD started out on the wrong foot with something that is simply not true at all. WD's claim: "Also, Russ Feingold never spoke out on the Senate floor in support of abortions that take place after birth. It NEVER happened (except in dmarks' imagination)".

The truth? It did indeed happen. From The Political Guide: "In September of 1996, Senator Feingold spoke with Senator Santorum on the Senate floor about the possibility of an abortion on a child that was accidentally delivered". He went on to say that he would have no problem with this born baby being killed. You really need to think these things through sometimes, ya know?

Later on you said "That was until dmarks lied about what Russ Feingold said". But we all now know I didn't lie. You have lost any credibility you have had on it. As if you had any left by the time of your 2nd comment in this thread.

He [Feingold] did say it was fine with him (not his business at ail) if doctors killed newborns. Come on, man, did you even read it? Santorum asked him a direct question, and Feingold weaseled about it for a while, eventually answering admitting his own personal incompetance and insulting Santorum while a qustion about killing the already-born infants in question ("that the baby was completely delivered ") saying: "I am not the person to be answering that question. That is a question that should be answered by a doctor, and by the woman who receives advice from the doctor. And neither I, nor is the Senator from Pennsylvania, truly competent to answer those questions. That is why we should not be making those decisions here on the floor of the Senate".

Also, WD is intentionally deceptive by implying that this conversation is about butchering supposedly "non-viable" American citizens. Feingold was talking about extending abortion to cover the execution of normal newborns, with no distinction made for the non-viable. In his discussion, Feingold favors doctors killing newborns for any reason at all ("That is a question that should be answered by a doctor").

In this, Feingold lied. While his statement about himself being incompetant is answered abundantly in the positive by his answers, the Senator from Pennsylvania and anyone who has read the Constitution knows that killing born babies is illegal. My claim about Feingold is this resolved as true.

By the way, changing the subject from butchering young American citizens to abortion, Feingold is indeed an extremist on it. Every time it comes up for a vote, he takes the fringe extreme view (fringe/extreme/insane as defined by pro-choice moderate Will, and strongly-Left John, at the start of this conversation. Will, you defined an extreme point of view at the start. WD actually found one even more extreme. More insane than insane.

Actually, it is nonsensical. You have supported this view of Feingold in the case of babies supposedly deemed to be non-viable.

Since Feingold's support for infantice (stripping young American citizens of basic rights and offering their lives up to the whims of doctors) is quite clear in the man's statements, the quote from you above is totally fact-free. Your standing under the bright noon sun and saying "it's night out!" type of stands get tiresome sometime. Perhaps your reading stuff and then saying it says the opposite, or missing entire paragraphs comes from a form of alexia you are afflicted with. Or are you just a malicious "troll" saying silly things just for fun?

here is the actual video. Ignore the first 20 or 40 seconds or so, which are framing from a political pressure group. In between the frames, you will find Feingold's actual words. Feingold is asked flat out about children who have been born (and are this outside of the situation of abortion, and are now US citizens protected by the 14th amendment). In his muddled answer (in which he does admit his own incompetance) Feingold comes across as dazed and confused, and as one of the worst type of politician who refuses to answer direct questions. He actually arguing in favor of killing a newborn who has already been separated from the mother in order to protect the health of the mother. Feingold is arguing for infanticide, and if you support his arguments here, you are supporting infanticide also.

Strong? Your opinion is kind of weak, since it only rarely intersects facts. Lets check this out:

For one, this conversation is not even about abortion. The living child in question is not even inside the womb. Your referring to a matter of killing a born child as an "abortion" is a prime example of your re-defining words. From any dictionary: "The deliberate termination of a human pregnancy".

It's clear that the pregnancy has already been terminated at this point. Also, there is no need to put quotes around the words born and my mention of the 14th Amendment. They clearly apply here. You have already re-written the 14th Amendment above. Perhaps you are re-writing the word "born". Thanks for proving Will's point about extremists and John's about insanity. I guess we should be thankful that only one extremist showed up for this. Except for you, sane heads have prevailed.

In his defense of the indefensibie, WD tore through many barriers of law, common sense, definitions, and compassion. Among his defenses of his zeal to see young US citizens killed without any regards to their Constitutional rights was this disclaimer which said such killings are OK if it isn't the government doing it:

There is a large number of public hospitals which are government-funded, and doctors who receive Medicaid payments. So, then, do you agree, WD, that these government doctors would not be permitted to act as judge. jury, and executioner and snuff out the life of US citizens? That this privilege is only reserved, then, for private individuals?

I will repeat that I have signed off on the moderate, sane compromise agreed to by Will and John earlier in the comments. Compared to what we have, and always will have in the current climate, I think it is an improvement.
